Building the compliance and regulatory law data infrastructure for the world.
Starting with India and the US. Vaquill AI turns acts, rules, regulations, notifications, orders and judgments into structured, section-level data, served over 18 REST routes and inside Claude over MCP. Built from India Code and the regulators' own sites. No commercial database is a source.
- 64,179

Union, State and regulator law, in one consistent format.
64,179 acts and 745,970 distinct sections, built from India Code, the Government of India's official repository, plus statutory regulators' own sites. Every jurisdiction comes back with the same fields in the same shape, so you build against it once instead of writing a parser per state.
How deep the holding goes
Serving an act and holding the record of what amended it are different claims. Most vendors publish only the first number. Here is both.
- We serve the publisher's text
- 64,179100%
- We hold a machine-readable citation
- 64,11799.9%
- We link to the publisher's own document
- 57,31689.3%
- We hold parsed chapter or part hierarchy
- 16,46525.7%
- We hold a structured amendment event
- 1,0611.7%
- We hold a repeal claim
- 6551.0%
1,901 acts claim an amendment; we hold the events for 1,061 of them. The other 840 return an empty event list and say so in their own coverage block, rather than leaving the emptiness to be read as “nothing ever changed”. Every event carries an appliedStatus, and it is not_applied on all of them, because we never rewrite the publisher's text.
50 government bodies, watched for change
11,946 rules and regulations issued by statutory regulators under powers delegated by an act, filed under category=regulatory and narrowed with the department filter. Across the wider pipeline we watch 400+ government sources for change.

split marks three jurisdictions stored under two slugs each, where a single-slug filter silently misses the other half. Pass both slugs, or search without a state filter and read the value off each result.
- India Code
- Re-swept weekly
- Each sweep
- Diffed into added, changed and withdrawn sets
- Regulator rules
- Pulled from each regulator's own site
- Sources
- Official publishers only. No commercial database.
Two ways to reach the corpus.
Same corpus behind both. Call it from your product, or use it inside an AI assistant.
REST
The hosted API.
If your product looks law up a section at a time.
- 18 routes in the India OpenAPI document
- Bearer token, self-serve, no sales call
- Coverage and filters cost zero credits, so you can size the corpus before you pay
MCP
The same corpus inside an agent.
If you want Claude to look Indian law up for you, no code.
- Hosted at mcp.vaquill.ai/in/s/_, publishing 8 tools
- A separate mount from the US corpus, so neither leaks tools into the other
- One vq_key_ credential works across both mounts
Check the coverage claim yourself. This route is free, and the live answer beats anything written on this page.
# Free, and authoritative over anything this page says.
curl https://api.vaquill.ai/api/v1/in/acts/coverage \
-H "Authorization: Bearer vq_key_..."- Section-level retrieval
- Search central, state and regulator legislation down to the individual provision, not just to the act.
- Three status vocabularies
- publisherStatus is India Code's claim, servedStatus is our serving decision, repealClaim carries the repeal record plus commencementVerified.
- Old code to new code
- IPC to BNS and CrPC to BNSS provision mapping, returned with isComplete so you know how much of the table is filled.
- Law-change alerts
- Watch a section or a whole corpus and get an email or a signed webhook the moment the text moves, across India and the US.
- Provenance on every act
- A link to the publisher's own document where one resolves, and a named reason where it does not. Never a broken link dressed as a live one.
The corpus is open. Check it yourself.
Open India Law is the wider Indian corpus behind the API, published in full along with the scrapers that build it. Scripts under Apache-2.0, data under CC BY 4.0. You do not have to believe a coverage number on this page: you can go and count it.
District and trial court decisions are not included. Judgment source PDFs are not re-hosted either: they are already public on the AWS Open Data Registry, and every provision in the legislation and regulator files carries a source_url pointing at its own document, so a chunk can always be traced back to the page it came from.
Every route, and what it costs.
All under https://api.vaquill.ai/api/v1/in/acts. The two routes that tell you what the corpus holds are free, because a consumer who cannot see the shape of a corpus cannot tell a gap from a bad query.
| Route | Credits | What it answers |
|---|---|---|
| GET /coverage | free | What the corpus holds, and how deep that holding goes. |
| GET /filters | free | The live filter vocabulary, with counts. |
| POST /search | 2 | Search central, state and regulator legislation down to the section. |
| GET /list | 1 | Browse enactments by jurisdiction, regulator, year and status. |
| GET /{actId}/status | 1 | Whether an enactment is still law, as three separate statements. |
| GET /corresponding-provisions/{actCode} | 1 | IPC to BNS and CrPC to BNSS section mapping. |
| GET /{actId}/structure | 2 | The act's table of contents, and the provisions under each part. |
| GET /{actId}/sections/{n} | 2 | One provision as a resource, with its citation and place in the act. |
| GET /{actId}/sections/{n}/history | 2 | Every amendment recorded against one provision. |
| GET /{actId}/text | 3 | Source text URLs, pointing at the publisher's own document. |
| GET /{actId}/sections/{n}/body | 3 | The publisher's full text for one provision. |
| GET /{actId}/amendments | 5 | The amendment history recorded for a whole enactment. |
The live OpenAPI document also carries resolve, cited-by, definitions, references and subordinate-rule routes. Read it for the exact request and response shapes.
What this corpus does not do.
Published here rather than discovered in production. Each of these is enforced in the responses themselves, so your code can read the limit instead of trusting this page.
We do not apply amendments to the text we serve
We serve the publisher's text as published, and never rewrite it to fold in the amendments we list. Every amendment event says so on itself, so currency never has to be inferred from silence.
No point-in-time reconstruction
There is no asOf on this API. Over unversioned text it would be a wrong answer shaped like a right one, so it is not offered. The US corpus does have it, on versioned editions.
Status is a claim, not our verdict
actStatus and repealedBy are the publisher's statements. We keep publisherStatus, servedStatus and repealClaim apart, and map an unverified repeal to unknown rather than to not good law.
Discovery runs through search, not list
GET /acts/list reads an older table and sees about 22,000 of the roughly 64,000 served acts. Every response says so. Use POST /acts/search for discovery and GET /acts/coverage for what exists.
10.7% of acts carry no publisher link
India Code re-minted every item handle in August 2026 with no redirect map, so those links 404. They are blanked rather than rewritten, and each returns a named reason. An empty provenance URL is allowed; a broken one would be a false statement.
The IPC to BNS map is curated, not complete
30 mapped pairs against the Indian Penal Code's 511 sections. The response states isComplete: false. Both codes remain live law while trials are pending, so the map is a research aid, not a substitution rule.
The US corpus is a different product with different guarantees. It carries versioned editions, so it does offer point-in-time reconstruction and change webhooks. Neither is available here, and neither is coming until this corpus is versioned. See the US primary law API
India Code, the Government of India's official repository of Central and State legislation, plus statutory regulators' own sites for their rules and regulations. No commercial legal database is a source or a link target. Only live official Indian publishers appear in the provenance field: .gov.in and .nic.in hosts, plus rbi.org.in.
